GETTING HELP AND SUPPORT

EMERGENCY:

If you or anyone else is in danger or at risk of harm and an immediate response is needed this is an emergency and you should call the emergency services on 999.

URGENT:

If you are experiencing confusing or distressing thoughts, or if people around you have expressed concern about your well-being:

  • arrange an appointment with your GP during surgery opening hours

or

  • call NHS 24 on 111 anytime.

Between the hours of 6pm and 2am every evening trained staff in the NHS24 Mental Health Hub are available to help ease immediate distress and where appropriate they will arrange further support for you within 24 hours

  • If you are currently being seen by someone from a community mental health team and require urgent attention, you can contact the Out of Hours Team using the number you will have been given.

If you are worried about how you are feeling or what you are experiencing, you can also go to an Accident and Emergency Department (A&E). They will assess your difficulties and arrange for you to see a specialist if needed. A&E is however a busy and stressful place, and you may have to wait a long time. It can be quicker to phone NHS 24 on 111, as they too can arrange for you to get to the help you need.

NEED TO TALK:

If you need to talk with someone about how you feel and what you’re experiencing, then the following organisations will help:

Samaritans  Call 116 123 (24/7 Freephone)

Breathing Space Call 0800 83 85 87

(Freephone; Monday-Thursday 6pm to 2am, Friday 6pm-Monday 6am)
